Lambretta TV175 'Tollazzi' Series TV175 / 195 Mod Custom - Paul Brown, Southend (UK)

This TV175 Series 2 was done for a customer who asked us to produce the ultimate 60’s Mod Custom and that’s what we set about doing. A donor scooter was found in Belgium and then stripped, and meticulously checked. Once blasted we set about doing a dry build and getting all the accessories together. EVERYTHING had to be 101% original or altered to suit needs. The base colour is the standard ‘Tirreno Light Blue’ and the contrasting black is a metallic colour chosen by the customer.

As this scooter had to be set apart from the crowd, we needed to go large on the accessories and make sure this scooter was one of the best we’d ever build. The accessories were sourced all over the World and include a host of the top drawer items that looked good together. No point in throwing everything on and hoping it’ll work. As such it was decided that we’d build a one-off big bore 42mm reverse-cone exhaust with DOUBLE 45 degree upswept original Londoner pipes. This took absolutely ages to get right as we had to take into account the angles, bodywork, suspension movement. All things that a lot of builders don’t even consider but will guarantee to end up in tears. The height, angles and lean of the pipes ended up millimetre perfect and then we turned our attention to other items in the engine compartment.

Keeping in with ‘everything’ having to be period correct, we went for a full on Ancillotti-pistoned 195cc conversion, competition clutch, 180W 12V Ducati points ignition (with all the workings concealed inside the original rectifier box), Omega 5 speed gearbox, Mk 1,5 Amal carb with unique choke set-up, period manifold and a light tune to the barrel. And guess what? It’s actually quite quick! The electrics were also moved over to the opposite side of the scooter so we could accommodate the original Maserati air horns and electrics on the flywheel side.

For the bodywork, an original Pegasus seat was located and recovered in leopard-skin material by Dante, RLC’s seat genius. A matching pair of ‘Wildcat’ mudflaps were also sourced and the original mudguards were replaced with original Nannucci items. The rear one was attached to the scoter with hand-crafter individual spacers. With the Cavalli double legshield trims and chromed panels, this scooter is absolutely lush. There are a million unique items on this machine and all together they help make it the icon Mod bike that it has become known as.

When the scooter was restored (there are a lot of the pics taken at the old shop posted up here) we managed to inadvertently eliminate the photo shoot pics so it’s always been missing form RLC’s Gallery. However, at the ‘2015 RLC Open Weekender’, owner Paul Brown came over and kindly brought this scooter with him. This finally giving us the chance to get some pics done at last, so a massive “Thanks!” to the man. Despite having been restored several years ago, and showing a few signs of use (expected as Paul rides his scooters), it was still a complete show stopper. Judge for yourselves….
