Tuned Lambretta SS200 5 speed engine - Giosoppo, Lecce - Italy

We were given a complete engine by Giosoppo to completely rebuild and tune. If it's speed you need then the Casa Performance SS200 kit is the only choice and when coupled with a RLC Cyclone 5 Speed gearbox and the right exhaust, you know this will be a real winning set-up. Giosoppo’s requirements were simple : the engine had to have all the top drawer goodies fitted including a Casatronic ignition, Cyclone 5 Speed gearbox, 6 plate BGM clutch, Iwis chain, high load bearings and a new Casa Performance crankshaft. However, he did NOT want the transfers in the casing to be welded or touched and the exhaust had to be a Clubman type box rather than an expansion chamber.

Once the engine arrived and was stripped, it became obvious that it had some internal damage that would need sorting out.  Once stripped and cleaned up, we sent if off to be acid dipped to leave everything absolutely gleaming. Once the engine had been welded and repaired where needed, it had all the gasket faces lightly skimmed, as with all RLC engine rebuilds. Our Lorenz was able to get on with the rebuild. All the studs were measured off the gasket faces (to leave no bare threads protruding once bolted up) and then we built up the Cyclone 5 Speed gearbox (X160) and BGM clutch. We modify the BGM clutch (8011NR46) pressure disc to enable better access in the event of servicing and the transmission was completed with an Iwis drive chain and high quality guides and front sprocket. The crank (X8) is one of RLC’s new Casa Performance parts and these are pretty much indestructible. The quality is mind blowing and they are simply the best cranks on the market – period.  The SS200 barrel (X6) was mildly tuned and the squish set. We only use ThreeBond sealant (OAL008),  which when coupled with all the skimmed gasket faces,  will guarantee an air-tight set-up all around. With the Casatronic variable ignition (X47) added and set, we then added the gearchange linkage set (L165) and the Gori GP50 exhaust (X93) to complete the show.

With an engine where were could not touch the casings and no expansion chamber to add power, it was going to be interesting to see how much power could be achieved with what was pretty much an out of the box SS200 engine rebuild. The answer was a very respectable 25bhp and a great spread of power. After we had ran the engine in a scooter for some km’s and did a few runs on RLC’s dyno, the completed engine was finally packed up and sent down to Southern Italy for Giosoppo to fit back into his scooter. Sorted!
