Murray is a long time RLC customer and when he asked us to locate a TV200 for his next project, we came across the old 90’s custom scooter ‘Sensi Seeds’ as a base scooter for the project. The scooter was quite rusty (despite having spent a lot off time in a cannabis museum in Holland!) and was dog-eared to say the least. We set about stripping the machine down 101% and then sent everything off to be powder blasted. Upon it’s return we did the usual RLC complete ‘dry build’ to ensure everything fitted well and adjusted as needed. The scooter had quite a lot of filler previously so this process was quite time consuming to make sure the alignment of the scooter’s panelwork was spot on. With everything ship-shape, the whole show went off to the painters.
In the meantime we had worked with Murray shooting ideas to and fro, based upon an idea Dean had been toying with for a while and wanted to build in the shop. Murray was receptive to the grand plan and added a few of his own deft touches to the design, which is based on the American ‘Shelby GT’ muscle cars of the 70’s, and when transplanted to a Lambretta it will look truly amazing. The idea was that most things on the scooter scene are a re-hash of something previous and if we’re REALLY honest, there’s very little that’s totally new. Mod scooters, custom scooters, street racers….they have all been done before. Therefore it was time to look further afield and to horizons new. The American car scene & associated look is relatively untouched as a source of inspiration by scooterists - and there really are some superb ideas to be had in that skool of design. The Shelby muscle cars are iconic and that’s where we looked to gain inspiration, adapt ideas and come up with something totally new, but retro – and with a hint of with a modern twist thrown in for good measure. The base white is New White 8059 whilst the metallic red and black both are American car colours.
Having muscle car paintwork meant that the standard TV200 engine needed some extra oomph and therefore we fitted a mildly ported 225 top-end, a filter-fed 30mm Dell’Orto carb mounted on an RLC ‘Maxi Flusso’ manifold, a completely chromed 42mm Casa S3 Clubman and finally a Cyclone 5 Speed gearbox to ensure the power stays constantly on tap. The whole engine was acid-dipped and polished.
We do love a nice accessory and Murray asked us to add a couple of choice items, to add to the design rather than detract from it, include Falbo footboard extensions, Ulma double trims, a Feridax screen and Super fork covers. All obviously being period originals. Stainless fasteners were fitted all the way around the scooter – engine included - with each and every one being mirror polished. Completing the picture are a RLC Pegasus seat and a set of stunning one-off badges made by Gary Constantine at Trinity Lambretta in the USA.
The finished result is what you see here and Murray was a happy bunny when he took delivery of the scooter. Pics thanks to : Paul Calder @ Scotia
