Sticky's Spanner's Manual says -"Nylon-lined cables do not require oiling or greasing along their full length and inners may be fitted dry. A coating of oil or grease on the exposed part of the inners can prevent water ingress and frozen cables through the winter though. Alternatively, seek out a cable lubricant like a PTFE Cable Guard"
