Lambretta Series 2 No. 80 LI Rome Olympics 1960 - Private UK Collector

This is the second original 'Olympic' Series 2 we have come through the shops doors. The last one we did, No. 26, was subjected to t a full 'conversed restoration' and then was snapped up by USA collector Roberto Morelli, of 'MM Lambretta' fame (the scooter can be seen on his website of the same name). Recently we were offered the chance to buy the scooter you see here i.e. No. 80, commonly known as THE Olympic Series 2, as it is the scooter that had the most prolific media coverage during the 1960 Games and was pictured in countless magazines and newspapers the world over, including being in full view in the famous Lambretta helicopter picture. We snapped it up and then offered it for sale. An RLC customer (a private collector who wishes to remain unknown), who has had over 20 scooters from us over the last 2 years, bought this scooter up the moment it became available and asked us to do a complete conserved resto'. This has to be one of the rarest Lambretta's EVER. There are more original factory Racers still in existence than there are original Olympic Series 2's!!! We stripped the scooter down 100% and cleaned up everything to see where and what needed attention or to be 'blown in'. We had the some cellulose paint made up to match the colour and the match was perfect. The engine has also received the same treatment, being completely stripped and then rebuilt. Everything is standard, as it should be, right down to the 4 pole 6V electrics and 19mm BS5 carb. Even if the paintwork remains more or less the same, the work involved is that of a complete resto', with all new rubbers, cables and running gear. The looks have remained original but the scooter now runs and rides as new. The amount of 'groundwork' (in the form of research) we did on this scooter was phenomenal and Vittorio Tessera provided us with a lot if previously unseen info & pics to ensure we got everything as it should be. We managed to finish it just in time for the Riva Del Garda Custom Show in Italy in late 2013 and it created a MASSIVE interest - especially when people realised it was the very same scooter that was in the photographic backdrop (depicting pics from the 1960 Rome Olympics)! The only thing missing was a complex-design waterslide that should have adorned the front horncover, for which we didn't even had a pic to go by to possibly get one remade. At the show, Giovanni Moscato, a close friend of RLC, let it be known that he had just such a waterslide which was original and had been passed onto him by his Uncle who had worked in Rome for the Olympics in 1960. A few days later, thanks to him, the scooter had the 'last part of the puzzle' on it's horncover. The scooter was now 100% finished and subsequently delivered to the owner in the UK. Sorted. For now, we have posted a few pics of the scooter and some taken at the Riva show by Christian Gentilini. We'll add some more as soon as the scooter hits the shows in the UK.
