2 x BGM Demonstrator 'Scooter di Prova' - Scooter Center & RLC

Whilst Dean was riding around Europe late last summer, he attended the rally at Venlo in Holland and then rode over to see the guys at Scooter Center in Cologne, Germany. RLC has always had a good working relationship with SCK and this was obvious from the fantastic welcoming he received. Whilst there, he got to see the amazing smallframe Test Bike they have and it really is a piece of mobile, working art. Stunning. Their Lambretta Test Bike on the other hand was a dead turkey and despite running well, looked positively crap by comparison!  When this point was noted during lunch with the SCK chaps, they threw back the gauntlet with a simple reply, “Well, why don’t you take it and build something better?”

However, rather than build just one, why not build TWO BGM Demonstrator scooters! One for SCK and one for us here at RLC! As we are a main BGM dealer (for both Vespa and Lambretta parts) and fly the BGM flag to the full, its only right that we too have a scooter to offer to customers to use to try the great range of products and also for show use.

To cut a VERY long story short, and as there are so many pics to see, both bikes were built at the same time and had to be completed for the SCK Show deadline in late May 2017. We literally finished the scooters a few hours before and got them to the Show on time. This was important as during the build, Ulf Schroder, one half of SC’s partnership, stated that if the scooters were NOT completed on time, then an English scooter builder  (RLC’s Dean)  and an Austrian painter (Markus Pfeil of ‘Pfeil Design’) were “going to die a slow, painful death”. Markus came out of his hibernation and Dean spent many late nights and weekends getting them done.

Essentially, in what seems like a strange twist of fate, both scooters are shit-box Indian GP200’s, both being the moving mudguard versions, and are decked out with parts that are the very best of the best, that both companies offer. The SC scooter was finished in a bright luminous orange and metallic graphite grey, whereas the RLC scooter was gloss black with orange metalflake. The main difference between the two was that the SC scooter used a SIL casing whereas the RLC version used a CasaCase (see below). There were numerous problems along the way, mostly related to the fact that the scooters were of Indian origin (example : the SIL engine casing for the SC scooter had a series of micro-cracks in the area around the rear hub bearing and had to be changed at the last minute, just before the build-up).

However, completed they were so we avoided ‘death by Ulf’. To get our own back, the unique running in sticker on the SC scooter states in German, ‘Treat this BGM Demonstrator with respect or Ulf Schroder will kill you!’
